Get Your Posterboards Ready

College campuses around the country are all set to go for another school year. Which means 4 things:

1. Long lines at the checkout lanes of your local Target and Office Max.
2. The Start of Football season.
3. A new crop of teenage Coeds going all out to look their finest. And we thank you for that.
4. An Excuse to wake up Saturday mornings-ESPN's College Gameday.

This will be the 23rd season of the ever popular College Gameday. The show will kickoff the 2009 football season where it ended the regular season last year-Hotlanta.

Gameday will set up at Centennial Park Saturday, September 5 leading up to the game of the week-The 2009 Chick-fil-A College Kickoff.

Right out of the gates, Week 1 gives us an intriguing matchup between to top 10 teams-No. 5 Alabama vs No. 7 Virgina Tech.

The Hokies won the ACC last year and went on to win the Orange Bowl. Va Tech has high aspirations coming into the season but lost running back Darren Evans for the season with an ACL tear. The Hokies are still loaded and under coach Frank Beamer, have always been known to score on defense and special teams.

And of course the Crimson Tide come rolling in off from a 12-2 season which ended in a disappointing loss to Utah in Sugar Bowl. 'Bama was 12-0 at one time last year and ranked No. 1 before a crushing blow to the eventual champion Florida Gators in the SEC Championship. The Tide return 12 starters from last year's team, including 8 on defense.

Last years's opening game between 'Bama and Clemson set the tone for both programs. Clemson came in as a top 10 team and was blown out by 'Bama which started a downhill run for the Tigers as they finished a dismal 7-6.

As for Gameday, the full crew is back with a national student body cast of thousands.

Look out Oxford. It's looking real good that Gameday will be making its inaugural appearance to the Ole Miss campus.

As for the signs? Expect more of Tim Tebow, Lou Holtz and anti-BCS signs. I'm sure "twitter" will make it's debut and become a popular sign every week.

What I'm sure everyone will be focusing on in the crowds (including the sign police) will be any sign referencing Erin Andrews or peepholes.

Horns Got Hooked!

Yes, it's that time of year again. The Holiday Season and another BCS mess. The BCS may be in worse shape the economy, thanks to the Big 12 South.

There's still one weekend of games left so anything can happen, and I'm sure it'll only get worse.

The biggest controversy (so far) is how Oklahoma jumped Texas in the BCS and now represents the Big 12 South in the Conference Title Game? We all know they each have one loss and Texas beat Oklahoma 45-35 on a neutral field. You would think the Longhorns would get the edge.

One thing's for sure. If Oklahoma beats Missouri in Kansas City (OU is a 17 point favorite), the Sooners will play for the National Title. If the Sooners lose, they're out. So along with Alabama, they control their own destiny.

Speaking of 'Bama. They're the number one team in the nation but face a HUGE showdown in Atlanta in a winner take all game for the SEC and quite possibly a spot in the National Title Game.

And by the way, the number 1 Crimson Tide are 9 1/2 point underdogs!!! against No. 4 Florida. That's insane!

Florida is definitely the best team in the nation. They have a Heisman Trophy winner, crazy speed on offense and defense, and great coaching. The SEC Title Game could be the game of the year and is must see TV.

So if the guys in Vegas are right, Oklahoma and Florida win their conferences. The Sooners go to Miami and play....the Gators?

Not so fast! OK, if Bama wins, they're in the Title Game. But if Florida beats Bama, do they jump Texas?

And let's take into consideration that I'm a huge fan of SEC Football.

Texas's only loss was on the road on the last play of the game to a Top 10 team. The previous play, the Longhorns dropped a tipped pass for an easy interception. Oh, that was big!

Florida lost at home to unranked Ole Miss!

At the beginning of the season, the SEC looked and started out as best conference in football. I'll even admit the SEC doesn't look so strong now, we'll wait and see how the bowl games play out.

So what are Florida's quality wins?

Georgia-a real disappointing season.
LSU-see Georgia.
South Carolina-not ranked at 7-5.
Florida St.-they play in the dismal ACC and the Seminoles have been off the map for some time now.

Heck, Bama's undefeated and again a 9 1/2 point! underdog basically because the Tide really don't have any quality wins.

Clemson-a preseason Top 10 team that may of had the most disappointing season in college football.
Georgia-See above.
LSU-the Tide was fortunate to win in Death Valley in overtime to a sub par LSU team.

Not only did the Longhorns get screwed by not playing the Big 12 Championship Game, they could get screwed again if Florida jumps Texas to play in the BCS Championship.

Wow! That's tough.

Could you believe this scenario. If the Gators beat the Tide, we could possibly be looking at a Big 12 South Showdown in the National Title Game. OU/Texas for all the marbles. That would be nice!

But of course if Oklahoma losses to Missouri on Saturday, all bets are off and we've again got another huge mess.

Gameday At LSU

Baton Rouge does not get the respect it deserves. We all know how great women and tailgating are in the SEC, but I think LSU might be a little under rated.

First off, the weather in Baton Rouge can be very unpleasant. I've never been there during the Summer months, but I can tell you September is miserable. If it's not 95 degrees with a 100% humidity, it's pouring rain and 100% humidity. Yeah, stand in the shade and you're sweating balls.

But when it comes to Saturday Gameday in Baton Rouge, the Purple and Gold never fail to bring it, and then some. I'm talking young and old, male and female. There's nothing wrong with cracking a beer at 6 AM. Hell, you're a minority if you don't.

I just wonder what these guys do when football season is over? I mean they have to be completely lost!

College Football Week 6 Recap

So 6 weeks into the college football season and the Big 12 is looking for bragging rights as the best conference in the nation.

Not only does the Big 12 boast 4 teams in the top 7, but the conference has 4 leading candidates for the Heisman Trophy.

1. Chase Daniel-Mizzou
2. Sam Bradford-Oklahoma
3. Colt McCoy-Texas
4. Graham Harrell-Texas Tech

If Kansas doesn't blow their Week 3 game at South Florida, the Big 12 would have 5 teams in the top 10.

Two weeks ago, the SEC had 5 teams in the top 10.

The difference here? The SEC started playing conference opponents in Week 2. The Big 12 just opened up conference play last week. Sure, Kansas had South Florida scheduled and Mizzou opened up at a neutral sight against Illinois. But now Big 12 teams will be tested and we'll soon see who's a contender or pretender.

Texas won a tough road game at Colorado this past week. Folsom Field is always a tough place to play and come away with a W especially when Colorado has a decent team. Now the stage is set for the game of the week in the Cotton Bowl for the Red River Shootout vs. No. 1 Oklahoma.

The road doesn't get any easier for the Longhorns. After OU, they welcome Missouri at home, followed by Oklahoma St in Austin and then have to travel to Lubbock to play Texas Tech. No way the Longhorns win all 4 games.

Texas Tech silenced their critics last week by going on the road and crushing Kansas St. The Red Raiders are a scary team and know look like serious contenders in the Big 12.

Missouri blew through Nebraska and got their first win in Lincoln since 1978. Coming into this game, Mizzou's defense seemed to be the team's Achilles heal, but after only allowing the Cornhuskers 17 points in a night game at Lincoln, the Tigers just might have the complete package. Missouri hasn't had the lead for a total of 13 seconds this season!

As for the SEC?

So far, Alabama has shown Nick Saban is worth every penny. Saban has taken a young Crimson Tide team to the top of the nation's best conference. With one of the best offensive lines, Glen Coffee has been solid, running for 218 yards against Kentucky. Yeah the narrowly escaped Kentucky at home, but in the SEC, no game is a give me.

Vanderbilt had the biggest win it's school's history by beating Auburn Saturday night. The Commodores are 5-0 for the first time since the FDR administration, 1943!

Auburn might want to rethink the team's plans for offensive coordinator Tony Franklin. Franklin was brought in to bolster the offense with the spread attack. However the Tigers' offense has had problems putting up points. Remember the 3-2 victory over Mississippi St.? Franklin reminds me a lot of Bill Callahan coming to Nebraska to run the West Coast Offense. Didn't work out so much.

Auburn's lack of scoring is a complete waste of a dominant defense. War Eagle!

Don't look now, but Ohio St. is back in the BCS hunt. After a 20-17 win in Mad Town, the Terrelle Pryor experience seems to be working out. And Pryor will be running the Buckeye offense for the next 3+ years.

Pryor had his signature drive leading the Buckeyes from behind on the road in the fourth quarter. Pryor lead the Buckeyes on a 12 play, 80 yard drive and capped off Ohio St.'s win with an 11 yard touchdown run with 1:08 left in the game. Believe the hype with this kid. Already showing glimpses of one Tommie Frazier.

One game to mark on your calender-Utah at BYU November 22. Chances are both these teams will be undefeated and the winner of this game will receive a BCS bid. However, don't expect the winner to play for the National Championship.

I'll guarantee the teams in the BCS Championship will at least have one loss. One team might even have two losses.

The SEC and Big 12 will beat each other up and may not even have a representative in the Championship game. Penn St. has looked solid in the Big 10, but have yet to play a credible opponent.

Still, I don't see Utah or BYU going undefeated and jumping a power conference team with one or two losses.

What's this mean? It looks pretty good for an Ohio St. and USC. Championship matchup.

Wow! Could you believe that? This time the Buckeyes will have a healthy Beanie Wells and an experienced Terrelle Pryor. It still won't prevent Ohio St. from getting manhandled in another title game.

Go figure. Neither the Pac 10 or Big 10 have a Conference Championship game, you know, an extra game against a top 10 team.

But the door's still wide open for Bama, LSU, Florida and Georgia in the SEC.

And I think Oklahoma is solid, but they always seem to beat themselves somewhere down the road.

Gameday Week 1

I know this is a little late, but surely worth the wait.

The College Football season is two weeks old. I want to do a quick reminisce of Week 1 in Atlanta.

Alabama gave the nation a glimpse of the power of the SEC with a crushing 34-10 win over the No. 9 Clemson Tigers.

Clemson was picked by many as the overwhelming favorite to win the ACC. Some, Brent Musberger included, pick the Tigers to play in the BCS Championship game.

ESPN's College Gameday was in full effect live from Atlanta's downtown Centennial Olympic Park. The show definitely hasn't slowed down any with at least 5,000 Bama/Clemson fans arriving early Saturday morning for Gameday.

That's a pretty good showing for an 8 o'clock kickoff and a noncampus site.

ESPN College Gameday To Kickoff 22nd Season in Atlanta

The 2008 College Football Season is a month away, which means the return of everyone's favorite pregame football show, ESPN College Gameday.

College Gameday will kickoff it's 22nd season on Saturday, 8/30, at a neutral site, the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

The live morning broadcast will mostly like air outside the Dome leading up to the primetime kickoff between the ACC favorite Clemson Tigers and from the SEC, Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Chris Fowler, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit are back again for their 13th season together.

Clemson and 'Bama have not met since 1975. It should be a bowl game like atmosphere with an even number of fans from each school.

If the start of college football isn't enough to get you excited, it's also the official start of Poon Season.

Yes, that is the Georgia Dome. Quite possibly the ugliest free standing structure known to man.
