NBA Line of the Week for March 30 to April 5 2009

Obscure Point Guard Ramon Sessions (Nevada) saw his name in bright lights as he recorded a triple double last Wednesday (April 1). No Joke.
Playing at home against the Lakers, Sessions and the Milwaukee Bucks nearly pulled off their biggest win of the year, but fell just short 104-98.

In 35 minutes, Sessions put 16 points, 16 dimes, 10 boards and 2 steals.

Later that evening in Oakland, Sacramento and Golden State showed why both teams are in the cellar...No defense. The Warriors rallied from behind to win 143-141 in overtime.

With all those fireworks you know there were some big numbers.

For the Kings, Kevin Martin (Western Carolina) scored 50 points-23 coming from the charity stripe. Martin was 23-26 from the line, 5-11 from 3 point land and 11-22 overall from the field.

For the Warriors, Monta Ellis played 49 minutes, shot 16-35 from the field, 0-1 from behind the arc, 10-12 free throw shooting, also adding 9 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 steals and finishing with 42 points.

Both these guards are tremendous scorers who get no publicity because they play late games on horrible teams.

NBA Line of the Week for March 23 to 29

Don't look now, but here comes America's least favorite team. Again.

With less than 3 weeks until the playoffs, the San Antonio Spurs are clinging to the second seed in the Western Conference. Pretty remarkable considering all the injuries the team has faced this season. Of course this is the team that draws low television ratings, gets all the calls down the stretch (Hello Manu Ginobli), and is just a fundamentally sound basketball team. So of course no one wants to watch them.

But, they are the team of the past decade.

And it all starts with the Big 3. And no one was bigger last week than Point Guard Tony Parker.

Parker was the leader as he helped the Spurs go 3-1 last week and regain the second seed.

Last Wednesday at Atlanta (3/25), Parker led the Spurs to a 102-92 victory...Without Tim Duncan!

Here's Parker's line for that night:

42 points, 10 assists and 3 boards.

For the week, Parker averaged 27.5 points and 8.25 dimes.

Can you believe people actually don't care to watch this team when you can see Eva Longaria every night out!

NBA Line of the Week for March 16 to 22

Since suffering a partially collapsed lung against the Lakers in late January, the Charlotte Bobcats' Gerald Wallace has shown no signs of weakness. Last week Wallace (Alabama), helped the Bobcats go 3-1 and now has Charlotte thinking playoffs!

Currently, Charlotte is 31-40 and just 2 1/2 games out of the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Last Friday (3/30), in a 102-89 win against Toronto Wallace's line read:

30 points, 8 assists, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 steals, 9-13 fg%, 2-2 3pt%, 10-12 ft%

NBA Line Of The Week for March 2 to March 8

Dwyane Wade is making a strong case for league MVP of late. We all saw his double overtime buzz beater to beat Chicago Monday night.

Last week Wade helped the Miami Heat go 2-2, coming up short twice against Lebron and Cleveland.

On Wednesday, March 4, Wade led the Heat to a 135-129 victory over the Phoenix Suns. Wade finished with 35 points, 16 assists and 6 rebounds.

Last Monday, March 2, Wade did all he could but the Heat blew a fourth quarter lead to the Cavs. Wade finished with 41 points, 9 assists, 7 rebounds and 7 steals.

For the week, D-Wade averaged 35.7 points, 11.2 dimes and 6.7 boards.

NBA Line Of The Week for 2/9 to 2/15/2009

What a week it was for the Knicks' Nate Robinson (Washington). Robinson, standing at 5ft 9in (according to the media guide), electrified the crowd during the All Star weekend when he dunked over Dwight "Superman" Howard to win his second Dunk Contest.

Oh, and Robinson also earned himself a nickname, Kryptonate.

Last week in 128-124 overtime loss to the Clippers, Robinson just missed a triple double, putting up 33 points, 15 assists, 9 rebounds and 5 steals.

Speaking of Triple D's, Boston's Rajon Rondo earned his second of his career, both coming this season. In the Celtics' comeback win against the Mavericks last Thursday (2/12), Rondo had 19 points, 14 assists and 15 boards.

NBA Line of the Week for 1/26 to 2/1 2009

The biggest off season deal in the NBA just may have been Cleveland acquiring PG Mo Williams. I had no idea Mo Williams (Alabama) was this good. Williams seems to be the outside shooter and play maker Lebron so desperately needed. And Lebron recognizes this. As James always requires extra attention when he has the ball, Williams can always find a wide open jumper.

Last Tuesday (1/27), Williams went off. In a 117-110 victory over Sacramento, Mo lit up with 43 points, 11 dimes and 8 boards, including shooting 7-12 from downtown.

And of course, Lebron quietly had another triple double that same night.

I can't forget about my boy CP3. Last Monday (1/26), Chris Paul was 3 steals away from a quadruple double! In the Hornets 101-86 win against Philadelphia, Paul put up 27 points, 10 rebounds, 15 assists and 7 steals!

That is straight up nasty! Here's hoping Paul's groin injury keeps him out for a minimum number of games as he's one of the funnest players to watch and the best PG in the NBA.

NBA Line Of The Week For 1/19 to 1/25 2009

During the NBA Finals, a lot was said about the absence of Andrew Bynum. But really, how big of a factor is Bynum?

Well, with a healthy Andrew Bynum, the Los Angeles Lakers have one of the best records in the league, sitting at 35-8.

And last week, the 21 year old had a career high 42 points in a 108-97 win over inner city rival LA Clippers. Along with the 42 points, Bynum finished with 15 boards, 3 blocks in 36 minutes.

For the week, Bynum averaged 23.5 points, 11.5 rebounds in just over 29 minutes a game.

The Lakers went 4-0 with wins over the Cavs, Clippers, Wiz and Spurs.

NBA Line of the Week 12/8 to 12/14 2008

Last Wednesday (12/10) Carmelo Anthony tied a NBA record by scoring 33 points in one quarter! In Denver's 116-105 win over Minnesota, Melo's 33 third quarter points tied George Gervin's mark for points in a single quarter.

In Melo's record quarter, he shot 12-15 from the field and 4-5 from behind the arc.
In one stretch Anthony scored 26 straight points for the Nuggets.
As a team, Denver scored 40 points in the third, of course Melo contributed 33.
Anthony outscored the entire Minnesota team in 33-22 in the quarter!

Carmelo's final line for the night:

45 points (season high), 16-29 fg%, 11 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists.

NBA Line of the Week: 11/17 to 11/23

It may not have been a great week for the Toronto Raptors, but you can't overlook Chris Bosh's performance. In a 103-90 losing effort to Orlando on Tuesday, Bosh (Georgia Tech) put up 40 points (14-19 fg%), 18 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.

Bosh became the first person in the Toronto Raptor's franchise history with at least 40 points and 18 boards in a single game.

For an encore performance Friday against New Jersey, Bosh put up 42 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists. However it wasn't enough as the Raptors fell to Vince Carter and the Nets 129-127 in overtime.

Worth noting:

Chris Paul is again proving he's hands down the best point guard in the NBA. On Saturday, CP3 recorded his first triple double of the season, 5th of his career, as the Hornets held off the Oklahoma City Thunder 109-97.

CP3's numbers: 29 points, 16 dimes and 10 boards. Paul also had 3 steals, giving him at least one steal for his 96th consecutive game, 9 games short of the NBA record set by Alvin Robertson.

NBA Line Of The Week: November 10-16, 2008

Yeah, I'm starting this back up again.

This section is usually reserved for Lebron or CP3. They pretty much guarantee sick numbers every game they play.

Beyond the usual suspects, this week's award goes to the New Jersey Nets' Devin Harris (Wisconsin).

Back in the lineup after missing 3 games with a sprained ankle, Harris helped lead the Nets to consecutive victories over the Atlanta Hawks.

In last Friday's 115-108 home victory, Harris scored 30 points on 8-17 shooting, was 12-12 from the line and had 6 boards, 8 assists and 2 steals.

The next night in Atlanta, Harris put up 33 points, 10 assists and 3 rebounds in New Jersey's 119-107 win.

NBA Line of the Week for 3/17 to 3/23

Vinsanity is back? Well, for one night at least. Now, that Jason Kidd is gone and the soon to be Jay Z's New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets are in shambles, Vince Carter is trying to prove he can still lead a horrible team into the playoffs.

Earlier this season, Carter had been rumored to be traded across the Hudson to the NY Knicks, but even the Knicks would not render his services. Scary, huh! Carter showed some flashes of Vinsanity last Wednesday (3/19) when he led the depleted Nets to victory over the Atlanta Hawks 125-117.

The win kept the Nets within striking distance of the eighth seed and a first round sweep by the Celtics.

VC's line: 39 points, 8 assists, 10 rebounds, 17-26 from the field.

In a tribute to Carter, the video of him dunking completely over a 7 foot guy in the Olympics never gets old.

Other high rollers last week:

Kobe Bryant put up 36 points, 14 rebounds, 8 assists in a losing effort to Golden State. You can only hope these two teams meet in the first round...heck any round of the playoffs. NBA action! It's Fantastic!

Finally, I've been pimpin this guy for awhile. No, not Lebron, but Chris Paul. Right now, the man is this year's MVP. I mean, how many other people can you name on his team. What team does he play for (City and mascot)?

CP has been willing the Hornets to the top of the Wacky West Conference. Last Monday, Paul led his team with 37 points and 13 assists to come from behind and beat the Chicago Bulls. The Hornets were down big most of the game but finished on a 24-4 run in the final 7 minutes. CP and the Hornets went 3-0 last week with wins over Chicago, Houston and Boston.

Paul has even been making Tyson Chandler actually look like a Lotto Pick.
Check out CP's highlights from just that one game.

NBA Line of the Week for 3/10 to 3/16

If you haven't been paying attention to the NBA, or all you hear about is how this is Kobe's year to win the MVP, Lebron James and Chris Paul continue to put up crazy numbers leading their teams to the playoffs. Baron Davis also stepped it up last week, but this week's Line of the Week goes to the Orlando Magic and Turkey's own Hedo Turkoglu.

Turk has been a great role player throughout his NBA career. Now, he's helping Orlando quietly become one of the Eastern Conference's best teams. Last Monday (3/10) Turk recorded just his second ever triple double as the Magic knocked off the Atlanta Hawks 123-112.

Currently the Magic are 45-25 good enough for the third best record in the conference.

Turkoglu's line for the game: 23 points, 13 assists, 10 rebounds.

Also noteworthy, the Denver Nuggets. Lost in Selection Sunday in the Rockets' 22 game win streak, the Nuggets lit up the scoreboard with a 168-116 crushing over the Seattle Supersonics. Denver set a season high for total points and 84 first half points. They had 8 players in double figures!

Marcus Camby contributed another solid performance with a triple double in 26 minutes!
His line: 13 points, 15 boards, 10 dimes for the big fellow!, and 4 blocks.

It got ugly fast for the Sonics, who gave up 168 points to the Nuggets, the third-most in regulation in NBA history.

173-Suns (vs. Nuggets) Nov. 1990
173-Celtics (vs. Lakers) Feb. 1959
169-76ers (vs. Knicks) March 1962
168-Nuggets (vs. Sonics) March 2008

NBA Line of the Week for 2/25 to 3/2

Kobe Bryant kept the Lakers near the top of the Wild West Conference and solidified his candidacy for his first ever MVP award. Bryant helped the Lakers to a huge win over Jason Kidd and the Dallas Mavericks with a 108-104 Overtime victory last Sunday (3/2). Kobe scored 22 points in the 4th quarter, 8 in OT and for the 22nd time in his career, Bryant hit the 50 point mark.
Kobe's line: 52 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 15-27 from the field and 20-27 from the line, including 13-13 in the 4th quarter.

NBA Line of the Week for 2/18 to 2/24

I'm tempted to call this section King James' Line of the Week or Chris Paul's "Pimpin ain't easy." These guys constantly puts up crazy numbers. Also, James and Paul are quickly becoming my two favorite ballers and both are two of the best players in the game. Lebron finally got some help he so desperately needed (we'll see how much help it really is), and Chris Paul has brought the New Orleans Hornets to the top of the high flying Western Conference. Both players get the nod for last week, although I feel kind of bad leaving Manu Ginobili out, he's really stepping up.

Lebron had back to back triple doubles on the road last week. Here's what he averaged for the week: 28.8 points, 10.5 assists, 12.3 rebounds helping the Cavs go 3-1. This guy will some day average a triple double for the year.
As for Paul, Wednesday night (2/20), he put up 31 points, 11 assists, 5 rebounds, 9 steals!, and only 1 turnover in a huge 104-93 over the Dallas Mavericks (With Jason Kidd).

NBA Line of the Week for 2/12 to All Star Break

Even though this was a shortened week in the NBA, Manu Ginobili lived up to his nickname "Super G." In a rematch of last year's lopsided NBA Finals, Ginobili helped the Spurs come from behind on the road against Lebron James and his lack of supporting cast. (OK, so Larry Hughes blew up for 40 points the other night, don't plan on seeing Hughes ever again coming close to that total). With the Spurs down 4 points entering the 4th quarter, Ginobili stepped up and hit 4-4 3point shots and 18 points in the final quarter. The Spurs hung on to beat the Cavs 112-105 (Wednesday 2/13).
Ginobili's final line: 46 points, 8 assists, 5 boards, 3 steals, 15-20 fg%, 8-11 3 point fg% and 8-9 from the charity stripe.

Tuesday, February 12, 2008

NBA Line of the Week 2/4 to 2/10

This one was pretty much a no brainer. Chris Paul (Wake Forest), maybe one of the top 5 players in the NBA, helped his New Orleans Hornets improve to 3-0 against the pre-Shaq (still not sure if this is good or bad, the jury's still out) Phoenix Suns.
The Hornets won a 132-130 double OT thriller last Wednesday (2/6) night. The 2005 NBA Rookie of the Year's line read: 50 minutes, 18-33 fg%, only 2-3 from the line, 9 assists, 8 steals, 5 rebounds, 42 points and only 1 turnover! Pretty sick!

His official website is pretty sweet too.

Wednesday, February 6, 2008

NBA Line of the Week for 1/28 to 2/3

Again, another tough decision, but I've got to go with Rookie Kevin Durant.
The sensational rookie helped end the Supersonics team record of 14 straight losses last Tuesday night (1/29).
Durant hit the go ahead jumper with 32.6 seconds left to give the Sonics a 88-85 win over defending Champions San Antonio.
Here is his line: 26 points, 9-19 from the field, 7-7 from the line, 7 boards, 5 assists, 1 block, 1 steal in 36 minutes.

Can you guess who scored the 37 points. This shows you exactly how much support Lebron has. Give this guy an all star to play with!

NBA Line of the Week 1/21-1/27

I give this one to the little know Western Conference player of the Week, the Minnesota Timberwolves Al Jefferson. Everyone knows how terrible the T-Wolves are after trading the

Big Ticket, but with the help of Jefferson, the young team how a decent week. Wednesday (1/23) Jefferson ahd 39 points, 15 rebounds in 35 minutes in a 117-107 win over the Phoenix Suns.
Sunday (1/27) Big Al had a career high 40 points to go along with 19 boards and 3 assists in a 98-95 victory over the N.J. Nets. The only flaw for the T-Wolves last week was a one point loss to the Boston Celtics.

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

NBA One Liner of the Week: 1/14-1/20

Candidates included Lebron James (51 points, 9assists, 8 rebounds) after driving 101mph.
Marcus Camby tearing it up (20 points, 23 rebounds, 6 blocks, 6 steals)
Camby again (24 rebounds, 11 blocks, 8 points)
Denver's Linas Kleiza (Who!) (41 points, 9 rebounds)
But I have to give it to Sacramento Kings' shooting guard Kevin Martin (Western Carolina), maybe the best player in the NBA you don't know.
In his second game back after sitting out 17 games with a groin injury, Martin helped the Kings top the Dallas Mavericks 122-120(last Monday 1/14).
His line: 39 points, 14-16 field goals, 2-2 3pt, 9-11 free throw, in 28 minutes.
