Calm Before the Storm

Yes, Butler's dancin! The No. 10 in the country has already been labeled a 5 seed by Joe Lunardi. Who is this guy? I mean, if you've paid any attention to this guy's picks in the last week, you'd see he's changed his mind more times than Hillary Clinton on Foreign Policy. Why do we need this "expert" advice on the NCAA Brackets. With conference tournaments in full swing, upsets always happen and therefore, bubble will bust. (See San Diego knocking off Gonzaga. Hey Lunardi, what effect did this have on Syracuse, Florida, Kentucky?) What a douchebag!

The Big East Tourney is already underway and tomorrow tips off the rest of the major conference tournaments. Get ready for the best time of year.
Once the tournament starts, you won't get a chance to catch your breath cause the next thing you know, it's opening day for MLB and The Masters tees off, and St. Patty's Day mixed in. Also, maybe some nice weather for the Northeast.

NBA Line of the Week for 3/3 to 3/9

Tracy McGrady receives this week's honor. I'm not a huge Rockets fan, but living in Houston, you can help but watch the Rockets winning every night. Out at the local pubs, the entire bar stands up and cheers for their home team's continued winning ways.
Maybe the Rockets have been beating mediocre teams, but hey, they play in the Western Conference, they've won 7 in a row without Yao Ming, and like Rick Adelman said, "Hey, we all play the same schedule." It's a lot of fun seeing a team's momentum carry night after night, total reminiscent of the Colorado Rockies.
It's also nice to see Tracy McGrady gain a little respect. After the Hawks, the Rockets have upcoming games against the Lakers and Celtics. I'm sure once the Rockets lose to a good team, they'll go flat just like the Rockies. This win streak doesn't even guarantee a playoff spot for Houston, so let's not talk about T-Mac getting out of the first round yet.
Here's T-Mac's averages for the week while the Rockets went 3-0:
32 points, 8 dimes, and 5 rebounds.

Bron-Bron watch:

King James continues to carry the Cavs basically by himself. Last Wednesday (3/5) on the world's biggest stage, Madison Square Garden, James put up 50, 10 dimes and 8 boards as he single handily helped the Cavs avoid the embarrassment of getting beat by the Bricks. Cleveland was 2-1 and the "blockbuster trade" hasn't made them any better. It was pretty much an even swap.

Also, Chris Paul continues his candidacy for MVP. This guy is willingly the (nobody watches) New Orleans Hornets to the top of the Western Conference.
Paul averaged 28 points and 13 assists to lead the Hornets to a 3-1 mark for the week.

Oracle of Omaha Richest in the World

Nebraska's own Warren Buffett is now the richest man on the planet! Buffett knocked off Bill Gates and his net worth 62 billion! dollars is tops in the world.

In related news, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest self-made billionaire. The guy is 23 years old and worth 1.5 billion!

Rockets Keep Winning

What's happened since the last time the Rockets have lost.

Speaking of hot streaks, ESPN lists some of their favorite streaks of all time.

Eliot Spitzer has taken attention away from the Democratic nomination race and is the laughing stock of the country. Here are just of a few jokes from late night talk show hosts.

Lou Holtz's face looks like my ballsack!

Now's he's on the college football Hall of Fame ballot.

It's Official, I Have a Man Crush On Michael Beasley

Yes, he is definitely the best college basketball player in the country. After watching this beast courtside during warmups at Allen Fieldhouse last weekend, I officially have a man crush on Michael Beasley. The guy is straight up sick! and will be the No. 1 pick in this June's draft.
The thing that sticks out most about Beasley is how smooth the guy is. I mean watching this guy knock down treys with ease while nodding his head and rappin to Soulja Boy in the background was pretty cool. Then, with the crowd booing him, Beasley calmly threw down a reverse between the legs dunk and it was quickly followed by a loud "OOOHHH!" from the entire crowd. (Yes, everyone in the building did not take their eyes off him.) This guy constantly gets double teamed night after night and still can put up 40 plus (And Kansas St. still loses).

Editor's note: Beasley finished with 39 points in a losing effort Saturday against the Jayhawks. Beasley got into foul trouble early in the contest with just over two minutes into the game he was whistled with for his second foul. Kansas quickly went up double digits and K-State never recovered.
I can only imagine how sick this guy was last year in high school.

The biggest question? Why did this guy choose Kansas St. in the first place?
1. It wasn't for tradition.
The Wildcats have never been known to even have a mediocre basketball program.
2. Was it because he wanted to be coached by a legend?
Not likely. Who can even name the K-State coach who's in his first year.
3. Maybe the location of the university?
What blue chip has ever considered Manhattan, Kansas. If anything, Lawrence is a short drive down the road and has all the history a guy could want in college basketball. Nowadays, top high school players in any sport seem to be opting for big schools with tradition, warm weather, and superb local talent. Not going to find any of this in Manhattan, Kansas.

4. Did he pick K-State because he would be center stage night after night in front of a nationally televised audience?
Since when has K-State been known to have its basketball team featured on ESPN prime time. I don't think any of Beasley's games were nationally televised until late January when conference play was rollin.
5. Maybe he chose the Wildcats because he wanted his own team to showcase his skills?
Well, he's pretty much the only potential scoring threat on the entire team and therefore always demands double, triple coverage, and still averages around 28 points a game. And he also broke Carmelo Anthony's freshmen record for double-doubles.
Whatever the reason, I'm hoping (along with anyone involved in NCAA Basketball), that the Wildcats reach the tournament and Beasley can pull a Danny Manning out of his ass and take K-State deep into the tournament. This kid is fun to watch and is the next big thing.

That's Some Voicemail

With all Brett Favre's accomplished throughout his career, you would think announcing his own retirement would seem a big deal. You know, maybe something like a press conference. But a voicemail on ESPN's Chris Mortensen's cell phone! Why would he contact Mortensen, wait he didn't even get a hold of him. He left his retirement statement on his freakin voicemail! And it was a pretty long message. I mean, you would think most people's voicemail could maybe hold a message 2 or 3 minutes long, but this message continued on and on. What if Favre's retirement speech was cut off? And why didn't Mortensen answer the call in first place?

NBA Line of the Week for 2/25 to 3/2

Kobe Bryant kept the Lakers near the top of the Wild West Conference and solidified his candidacy for his first ever MVP award. Bryant helped the Lakers to a huge win over Jason Kidd and the Dallas Mavericks with a 108-104 Overtime victory last Sunday (3/2). Kobe scored 22 points in the 4th quarter, 8 in OT and for the 22nd time in his career, Bryant hit the 50 point mark.
Kobe's line: 52 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 15-27 from the field and 20-27 from the line, including 13-13 in the 4th quarter.

One and Done

A salute to the Fab 5 Frosh

The top 5 players in college basketball are Freshmen and all will probably be playing in the NBA this time next year. Could you imagine Michael Beasley going to the Heat with D-Wade!

D-Day

I'm not big into politics, whoever has been in the White House has never affected my way of living. I never cared for the Clinton family, I always thought they were a disgrace to the country. This year, who the hell is running for President, Hillary or Slick Willie? I've come to really like Barack Obama. This is a guy who seems to always say the right thing and is cool under pressure. Obama is on one of the hottest win streaks, right up there competing with the Houston Rockets now 15 game win streaks.

If you haven't been near a TV, a newspaper, or outside, tonight will pretty much decide who the next US President will be. The race is pretty much between Clinton and Obama. The average person probably couldn't tell you who the Republican candidate is and that there even is one.

With Clinton seemingly slipping and not able to handle the pressure, it looked as the Obama would continue his hot streak and wrap up the Democrat nomination. That is until Clinton's campaign came up with a presidential saving move. Secretly put Hilary on Saturday Night Live! Saturday night, reporters were waiting for Clinton to board their plane, when Clinton ducked out on a different plane headed to NYC. Clinton surprisingly showed up on SNL and this may have been the biggest move of her career. Clinton was able to appear down to earth and in touch with 18-36 crowd (mainly the undecided voter). This move was ala 1992 when Slick Willie showed up on Arsenio Hall playing the saxophone. I remember everyone saying how cool this guy was because he showed up on a then popular African American late night show and wore shades while playing the saxophone. Don't be fooled again America. Barack is the Man.

About this year's election, one of my buddies always brings up the Taliban. "They've got to be sitting in their caves rejoicing and saying 'This is far easier than we expected, either a black man of a female.'"

Patriot Gamble Pays Off

Speaking of Randy Moss. Boy did New England take a huge gamble. They actually let Moss test out the market where he was offered more money than the Patriots were willing to give him. That could have been a huge disaster for this franchise. They've already lost a few key players, but could you have imagined what Tom Brady would have done if Moss had left?
But even with Moss, the Patriots still don't know what to expect with this human time bomb. I mean, this is the same guy who admitted to taking plays off, you has left games prematurely, has tried to run over cops, who became extinct for two years with the Raiders.

Yeah, he had a record breaking season last year, but he also had an incentive laden contract. I'm sure that every NFL team will be watching the film from the Super Bowl and teams were actually figuring out how to slow the Pats down. With all the double coverages Moss will see next year, he probably won't get the ball near as much and you know this will annoy Moss at some point. You have to wonder, will he go back to his old habits?

Thank You Number 4

After finishing off one of his best seasons at 38, Brett Favre officially called it quits. Many believe No. 4's decision came because Green Bay failed to hook Randy Moss. Favre said that he would like to play one more year, but anything other than another Super Bowl ring would be a disappointment. Many think Favre is so disappointed about the whole Moss situation and believe Favre will rethink his retirement. After all, he's still one of the best QB's in the game. Favre will easily go down as one of the top 5 quarterbacks ever, and definitely one of the most exciting players in NFL history.

You can't help but to put on any sports channel and it seems there whole daily programming has been devoted to Favre. The best stories from Favre's career are definitely his early years. Like the night before he found out he was starting his first game in for Southern Miss, he and a teammate went out Friday night with 36 beers (18 apiece) and celebrated. The next morning during warmups, Favre's uniform was completely soaked and he was seen throwing up. On draft day, his name was mispronounced. In Atlanta, he was known as Buckhead Brett for the the city's nightlife district, Buckhead. When he was traded to Green Bay, Favre failed the physical and Ron Wolf told the team doctors to pass his physical. You never saw Brett Favre in a suit, only a T-shirt and blue jeans.
A few words to describe Favre: Iron Man, gutsy, leader, winner, record holder.
